The  vision  of  the  department  :

According  to  the  vision  and  mission  of  the  Faculty, the  department  defined 

its own  vision  as  following :

• To achieve An  actual  variety  in  the  different  fields  of  specialization  and  in  the  branches  of  Library  knowledge, information  and  documents .

• To  innovate in  the  programs  and  in  the  ways  of  learning  and  scientific  research .

• To  participate  actively  in  serving  society  and  providing   experts  and  library  graduates .

THE  MISSION  OF  THE  DEPARTMENT  IS  AS  FOLLOWS :

1- To  ensure  the  importance  of  the  specialization  of  Library  Science and

     Information  and  its  role  in  the  general  development  of  the  society .

2- To  encourage  creativity  in  education , scientific  research  and  to  develop 

     society  by  forming  well  trained  ordered  intellectual people  for  all

     technical  operations and  directions for  libraries  and  information centers  of  different  types .

3- To disseminate  the  Moral values  in education  and  scientific  research ,  and   to  serve  society and  practical applications in  libraries  and  information science.

   TARGETS  OF  THE  DEPARTMENT  :

1- to  offer  an  excellent  and special  level  of  high  quality studying  programs  in  the under graduate stage   of  the  University  ,in order to provide society with     experts and  professionals, who are   able  to  manage   knowledge  in  its  different types.

2- To  present  different  programs  for post -graduate  studies  ( M.A.  and  PHD )  and  for the  professional  level  ( Professional  Diplomas )

in  the  specialization  of  library  , information  science and  documentation ,in order to  prepare  researchers  for  a  high  on  the  scientific , professional  and  educational  sides .

3- To  develop  knowledge  and  preserve  intellectual  production through  the 

 encouragement of  researchers  and  the  members  of  the  academic  staff  for  the  creativity, innovation  addition  and  participation  in  the  development  of 

specialized  knowledge  and  to  preserve  it  .

4- To  take  advantage  from  information  technology  and  communication  for the help in  education  and  research  .

5- To  participate  in  the  preparation  and  training  of  the  experts in  libraries and  information science  through  training  programs  ,which keep them up to date with the new trends in the field.

6- To offer Consulting Services to  different  associations  in  the  society .

The  department  seeks  also  to  develop  educational  syllabuses  in  all  levels  to  prepare  graduates  for  a  distinguished   level  according  to  real  needs  of  the  Labor Market.
